Claude Code error
API Error: Request rejected (429) · this may be a temporary capacity issue. If it persists, check https://status.claude.com.
The last sentence names the status page of your provider, so it reads differently on Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry, or behind a custom base URL.
This is a rate limit on your key or project.
It is not your plan quota.
What it means
You hit the rate limit set for your API key, Amazon Bedrock project, or Google Cloud project.
Claude Code does not retry it as a plan throttle.
Fix it
- Run
/statusand confirm the active credential is the one you expect. A strayANTHROPIC_API_KEYin your environment can route requests through a low-tier key instead of your plan. - Check your provider console for the active limits and ask for a higher tier if you need one.
- Cut concurrency: lower
CLAUDE_CODE_MAX_TOOL_USE_CONCURRENCY, run fewer parallel subagents, or pick a smaller model with/model.
Switch while you wait
Claude Code also runs on Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry, billed to the cloud account you already have. A limit there is your cloud limit, not the Claude key limit.
Or move the task to another vendor you already pay for while the limit clears.
With superbot
superbot is your own AI agent with a model of its own that runs on superbot credits, so it keeps working when a vendor's plan runs out.
It also puts your own API keys behind one base URL, with one caller key, in the OpenAI or Anthropic format.
Calls on your own keys spend no superbot credits, and you pay your provider as usual.
Claude Code takes an Anthropic base URL, so see the ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL page.
