Claude Code error

✘ Failed to connect

claude mcp list prints this next to a server it could not reach.

The list command worked.
Claude Code could not reach that server.

What it means

A failure status means Claude Code could not connect to that server, not that claude mcp list failed.

From version 2.1.219 the line carries the detail: the HTTP status or error code, plus any error text the server returned. claude mcp get <name> shows it on an Issue: line.

Fix it

  1. Read the detail. A bad credential shows the HTTP status, for example 401. Fix the credential or the server address.
  2. Reconnect: run /mcp reconnect all (version 2.1.284 and later) or open /mcp and reconnect the server.
  3. The other statuses are Connected and Needs authentication. The second is a sign-in, not a failure.

Switch while you wait

Switching vendors does not help here. The fix is the server or its credential.

If you need the tools now, run the same MCP server from another client you already use.

With superbot

superbot is your own AI agent with a model of its own that runs on superbot credits, so it keeps working when a vendor's plan runs out.

It also puts your own API keys behind one base URL, with one caller key, in the OpenAI or Anthropic format.

Calls on your own keys spend no superbot credits, and you pay your provider as usual.

The setup is on the ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL page and the OPENAI_BASE_URL page.
